Game Review - Fallout Brotherhood of Steel

If you know anything about the Fallout Series of games you will want to own a copy of this for the XBOX. If you don't then you may be disappointed. The game has some serious technical problems, but the story more than makes up for it.

Let me start with what is wrong. Invisible walls, and an overhead camera that you can tilt. It will make you dizzy in a big fire fight. The other thing the fallout series of games has always suffered from is getting stuck. Every game has had the ability to get your character stuck in odd places. Save often and don't go nuts jumping on things.

Now that the bad is out of the way, this is one of the most engaging RPG story lines every. It has that campy 50s nuke back story. It is immersive and raw to say the least. If profanity makes you wince, this game will make you faint. The characters are living in a broken future America riddled with radiation and mutants. They don't have very good manners.

This game is almost the exact same engine from Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance, with guns replacing magic and some serious melee weapons. If you liked the game play from BGDA you will enjoy this one. If you hated it you will be miserable.

I am giving this game 6 out of 10. Why so low for a game I love, I am harsh. The developers should have put some more time in the engine. I have rated it so high because I love the story.

The price has recently dropped to under $30 so this one is now worth buying. If you wait another few months you will probably find it in the preplayed bins for $10.

Having completed the game last night I thought it worth a comment. The end movies were good. The final boss fights were annoying. Glad I spent every cap I had on ammo. I needed it for the tedious exit battle.

The final run for freedom took two tries. I hate that. The first try had no clues and I just stumbled around looking for the exit. The second try I finished in about half the time allotted because I knew which way was a dead end.

The problem I have with that ending, is that it isn't challenging, it is just annoying. It doesn't add anything to the story and most people will have to do it at least twice just because it is dumb luck as to which path to choose.

All in all I was going to up the rating from 6 out of 10 to 7 out of 10, but the annoying ending forced me to leave it at 6 out of 10.
