Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban - IMAX

I love the fact that Warner Brothers is doing major movie releases in IMAX at the same time they are released to all other theaters. This has little to do with the quality of the story or how well it sticks to the novel, but it is a great thing for movie nerds.

The little wizard asked on the way out if the director read the novel. I didn't read it so I can't attest to the accuracy of the story, but I enjoyed the movie. Reviews I read said this was more of a movie adaptation that a telling of the novel. I have to agree. It felt more like a movie, no long dragging scenes that set things up.

The special effects were excellent and the story flowed nicely. The children in the audience seemed to laugh when appropriate and the audience applauded at the end. That opening weekend tradition still amazes me. My only complaint and this is one that nothing can be done about is that the actors are getting a little old for these roles. They did refer to them as 13 year olds in the movie and that seemed to make it work, but they will have to hurry on filming the other 4 unless they are going to swap out the acting staff. I will not accept a 23 year old Harry Potter, this is not 90210.

I give this one an 8 out of 10.
