World of Warcraft - First impressions
I will start by saying that I played warcraft, and I played EQ for a little while. I loved warcraft, but never found it to be something I wanted to play after I completed the campaigns. Playing against other people was just not my thing.
EQ was nice. It was fun to have a friend who had been playing for 5 years twink my characters. (Meaning that I had a low level character with the best loot given to me by my friend.) I stopped played because I did not enjoy the quest system. It seems tedious. If you have played EQ you know what I mean.
I love World of Warcraft. So much so that I created a guild, have a second account for my son to play with me, and wasted entire days over the recent holidays playing.
They have had some server issues, the one called "loot lag" is the worst but they seem to have patched it finally. Blizzard is not keeping secrets about their problems. They are allowing people to vent and complain in their forums without censorship. I have every faith in them that they will correct their issues.
The game play itself is something between EQ, Neverwinter nights, and warcraft. The world is straight out of the warcraft game, with some fun touches. I do not intend to give out spoilers of game information, there are plenty of places to find that.
The game is laid with two factions, Alliance and Horde. Each plays on the same servers, called Realms, but Alliance and Horde can't interact unless they are fighting. They have areas that are massive battlefields where the two sides can meet. I can't wait to find out where those are.
I am probably going to spend far less on other games, the monthly fee is reasonable, about $12 if you pay for 6 months at a time. $15 if you pay monthly. With so many ways to play and things to do, I can't see wasting time on console games or more NWN Modules.
I give World of Warcraft a 10 out of 10 on first impressions. Once I hit the level 60 content I will let you know how they did with the big stuff.
