World of Warcraft - PVP and Ganking - That may be an alt, not a newbie.
I have finally started working on and alternate character, and I am up to a point where I have to start doing the Deadmines, or Vancleef instance. One part of the chain is you have to escort a "Traitor" to have him show you the hideout. As I approached the entrance to the deadmines with the "Traitor" 2 horde players appeared from around the building and started attacked the traitor.
This turned them PVP, and it was literally right where the guy finishes. My party attacked the horde players and were flagged PVP. They killed the traitor and a Level 60 Horde Rogue unstealthed and ganked my whole party.
What is ganking? It is a term for high level players killing lower level players of NPCs for no value.
The argument can be made that this was a good tactic for the horde to use, but they were doing this just to be assholes. There is literally dozens of other places they could have fought honorably and kept the battle up for hours. Both sides gaining experience and earning honorable kills.
The horde decided to "camp" our bodies and attack each time we spawned. After about 3 tries to get away, I had had enough. They were doing a nice job of keeping us off balance. It was time to unbalance the equation in favor of the Alliance. Remember, when you start ganking lowbies, they may be alts and not newbies.
I logged out with my lvl 17 warlock and logged back in with my level 60 warrior and flew him into the area. They were not paying attention as I charged and killed the 2 low levels and then started chasing the level 60 rogue.
By then my calls to the local defense channel had gathered almost all of the Alliance characters in the zone. After about 20 minutes of chasing them 3 other level 60 horde showed up and the 3 initial attackers gave up and logged out while we were camping them.
The battle continued for about another hour with 2 level 60s including myself and 1 50 leading a group of mid 20s against 2 shamans and a warrior. The second group fought honorably and took the battle away from the deadmines, letting the other players do their quests.
Why tell this whole story? It was the most fun I have had with WoW in a while. It was one of those experiences you can only have on a game with PVP. No script could make a game perform as this one did that afternoon.
The evil horde attacked and we drove them off.
So what was the end result? I had 22 kills for the day and over 500 contribution points. That was more than I had gotten with 250 kills in a session. This little skirmish will help keep me at my current rank, and will make me want to react to these small battles.
Well done Blizzard. I will go ahead and renew for another 6 months. Now where are those Hero Classes you promised. I am not all that interested in the Battlegrounds, but tell me about a new class I can play and I am interested.
