Toyota Prius - First week well under way
I am on my 3rd day of a "real" commute and I have to say that the mileage is holding as promised. I am getting an estimated 50.6 MPG. The mileage seems higher in the morning than in the afternoon. It may literally be that I am going uphill on the way home more, and downhill on the way in. But it all seems to balance out.
For anyone who doubts that they cars really get this gas mileage, I say don't doubt it. It is for real.
So the mileage question is answered, what you want to know is how does it drive? Very well actually. I will be honest, I was raised with muscle cars and until a week ago I drive an Avalanche, so I am used to horse power. This is a smaller car.
You will not be winning any races with this car, but that is not what it was designed to do. It is all about mileage, but you never feel unsafe.
When I stand on the gas it goes. I tested it and needed to do so once already because of heavy traffic. If you drive in the Metro Atlanta area, you know that the slow and weak are left for dead around here.
By the way, if you just floor it all the time, your mileage will be horrible. I am betting you already knew that. The electric needs a change to work.
While closing on a week of driving I have to say I am impressed. I have not been this happy with a car, ever. There are little quirks that take some getting used to but those are from my own experience, nothing to do with the Prius design. I am now realizing just how spoiled I have been with American car inefficiency.
