Dorada Software - RSSRadio Windows Podcast Client Software

Dorada Software - RSSRadio Windows Podcast Client Software

I started using RSS Radio last night as I have have to give up on Ipodder lemon for now. The lemon version was causing mysterious sound card device driver problems. I will confess as to not know if it is the the fault of the audigy2 drivers or lemon, but I don't care. After a recent update of my hardware and their software, it became unusable.

RSS Radio is a shareware version of ipodder that is written using .net and the result is pretty nice. It is not quite as automatic as the lemon version but I was able to use it without any real effort.

Turning the sound off for incoming podcasts was not available in the first version but after an update the check box to stop sounds on downloads magically appeared. I like the fact that I could see the instant evolution of the application. That gave me a nice warm and fuzzy feeling.

The fact is that most podcasting clients may become obsolete if the promised iTunes 4.9 actually can manage RSS with enclosures. There is an inherent danger in putt all ones eggs in one basket, but that is why I bought an Ipod in the first place. I want convenience. I know I am bowing down to "the man" for my music, but I am doing that anyway, might as well pick "the man" who gives me everything in one package.

Bottom line this is a really nifty podcast receiver with some nice features. It is only the second I have ever used but I was overall pleased with how easily it worked and the learning curve was minimal. If I keep using this I will definitely give this guy $15 for his efforts.

I have to post a follow up for this one. I am still going to give it another week, but there are some problems. The fact that it does not automatically update my iPod after it downloads new shows.

Syncing to the opod is only done once per day automatically. A feature to do it more often would be nice.

Also, my xp box slows down massivly after it starts because it is a .net program and needs a massive amount of virtual memory. This alone scares me.

I am giving it one more week. There are a lot of features I like. The interface is good, but there are some pretty big downsides.

Okay another quirk, you can only have 5 subscriptions with the non-registered version.

Your choice, developer dude, but most of my favorite podcasts are once per week. There is not enough traffic to test how your application really works.

Not giving up yet, but there is nothing making me recommend this now over the open source ipodder lemon version.

I turned it off and unstalled it tonight. I was tired of the quirks. Not sure what I will use for now, maybe I will just manually download podcasts until iTunes 4.9 is out.
