iTunes 4.9 - Podcast Receiver
iTunes 4.9 has been released and like a lemming I have jumped off the cliff and installed it. Since I have spent money at the iTunes store and I have an iPod I have no fear updating.
I have been waiting for the super neat podcasting features to be added to iTunes. Well they added it. Just way we all feared they would. You cannot add your own RSS feeds, you have to download them from their Podcast Store.
Ummm... Most of the feeds have crashed. Well the dawn and drew show... And the evil genius chronicles. It is most likely due to overwhelming demand on the first day. This may not be a good thing. The masses now have access to podcasting with no effort.
That is a good thing. But the fact that I can't add any podcast I want is problematic in my view, but I fully expected it.
So what do I find wrong? You know there is something wrong in my view. I am unhappy that downloaded podcasts are not added to my library. They are copied to my ipod under the artist name, but they are not available in my iTunes library.
This may seem nit picky, but hey, they are my podcasts, why can't I put them where I want?
So what is wrong with not being in my library? I can't create my usual smart playlists that I used to determine if I have listened to something. Maybe there is a way to build one but it is not intuitive. Apple has built themselves on being easy to use. They missed the mark in my opinion.
I am sure that they will make some changes in future versions. Of course they will, this is version 4.9, they have made changes many times.
If you have an ipod, download the new version and enjoy it. You will download it eventually. If you don't have an ipod you will probably not be interested in this for podcasting. You are most likely using some podcast receivers that you really like, or at least they work.

You can add podcasts to your library if you convert the podcasts to aac. I have no idea why that works, though.
Wow, that works... that is insane. Maybe it should read, add to library.
I wonder if I can script that? The whole point of podcasting is automation.
